This photo remix resonated strongly with the judges, in its use of colour, composition and rich imagery. Category sponsored by DigitalNZ

$2000 goes to the best photo remix that explores the theme “Past and present, then and now, yesterday and tomorrow”. We asked for a single, still image that remixes one or more Creative Commons, public domain, no known copyright, or openly licensed New Zealand images in a fresh and interesting way.

"Excellent title, engaging concept, great selection of images, successful composition, and a lovely response to the challenges faced by Christchurch. An incredible list of sources, and all attributed in full: the entrant must have spent a lot of time researching and building this image. It was a powerful experience seeing the work unfold as I followed each link to its source image. Great work!"

"A technically well executed remix in a classic photomontage style, with hints of retro tourism posters. Balanced use of colour and monochrome images, nice overall weight, composition and depth. An engaging image that's actually nice to look at! A strong, personal idea, well executed. Great range of content from broad range of dates but that work well to tell the story. Great attribution to original sources."

Chang-Hsin Wang's description of the entry:

The Cathedral is damaged, the square is cordoned off, but the memories of the good times we spend there have survived. This polaroid is a remix of 23 photos, all of them taken in the Christchurch Cathedral Square from different periods of the past. In the polaroid people are happy and smiling even though they are in front of the damaged cathedral, much like Christchurch residents who have grown amazing strength and resilience during the times of uncertainty.
